Alcohol and drugs

Alcohol and drugs can affect your sexual health and wellbeing. Too much alcohol, or drug use mean you could take more risks. This includes having sex when you might otherwise not or, when you do, not using a condom.

Results from a survey of people living in Northern Ireland indicated that 31% of people (37% men; 26% women) agreed that drinking alcohol has contributed to them having sex without using a condom. 1

Excess alcohol consumption can be linked to a number of sexual health issues, including regretted sex, unprotected sex, STIs and teen pregnancy. 2,3
