All pregnant women in Northern Ireland are offered a blood test to check for:
- hepatitis B infection;
- HIV infection;
- syphilis infection;
- immunity to the rubella virus (German measles).
Only one sample of blood is needed. The test is offered to all pregnant women, normally at the first antenatal visit.
